Nicolas Plamondon (1990-2013)
I just found out…
An unforgettable human being, talented artist and precious friend of mine passed away. He took his own life. This is affecting me on such a deep level, I feel numb, choc, like this is not really happening, that this can’t be real. Nicolas Plamondon, we knew each other since we were around 13 or 14 years old. We were probably the only kids in Quebec interested in the same kind of comics and arts, drawing almost the same and sharing similar visions and ideas, yet we were living in complete different cities. We found out about each other through comix zines we were publishing inside and on forums about comics. He was the first to show me Montreal around, I remember visiting the late Fichtre library with him for the first time… I say that we were making the same kind of comics, but actually he was much more brilliant than me, a much more clever cartoonist, vibrant and vital human being, sensitive and caring, funny, intelligent, interesting and so much more… Words are useless to describe him, all I know is that he was absolutely unique and too good for this place. I’m glad I was able to hug him one last time and tell him how much he meant for me a few weeks ago.. It’s just very sad that he won’t be there anymore to produce more of his art. He was such a pertinent artist and person to be around. God, this is terrible. Such a lost. Such tragedy… But because he was an inspiration to many of us that knew him personally, he will be forever missed and never be forgotten.
Je t’aime Nico, merci pour tout. Ces moments à tes côtés, comment puis-je les oublier?
Tu as été profondément marquant et le restera pour toujours dans ma mémoire.
Adieu mon cher ami…
